Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and supportive OT Advice and Wellbeing Hub on a 5-month locum contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for an OT with extensive experience in major adaptations who is passionate about helping people remain safe, independent, and well in their own homes.
The Role
You will be responsible for carrying out comprehensive assessments, undertaking home visits, and producing detailed recommendations and specifications for major adaptation schemes across Reading Borough Council properties.
Working collaboratively with Housing colleagues, surveyors, and other professionals, you will play a vital role in delivering person-centred housing solutions that promote independence and improve quality of life.
You will assess and recommend:
Stairlifts
Level-access and wet room showers
Ramps and access solutions
Specialist adaptations to support independent living
Key Responsibilities
Undertake specialist occupational therapy assessments for major adaptations.
Complete home visits and assess functional needs.
Produce detailed adaptation specifications and professional reports.
Work closely with Housing Services, surveyors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Provide person-centred recommendations that maximise independence and safety.
Manage a caseload of complex adaptation cases.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
HCPC registration and a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.
Significant experience assessing for major adaptations.
Strong knowledge of housing adaptation pathways and Disabled Facilities Grant processes.
Experience writing detailed adaptation specifications and reports.
Excellent assessment, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
A person-centred approach with a focus on independence, choice, and wellbeing.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.Please note: Due to the nature of this role, candidates must live within a commutable distance of Reading, as regular home visits across the borough are required.
