The below job description will outline this position of: Design Engineer – Mechanical

Typically, this person will be responsible for producing innovative and cost-effective mechanical designs from concept through to production using 3D CAD. The role focuses on developing practical engineering solutions, creating detailed models and drawings, supporting prototype development and working closely with manufacturing and project teams to deliver successful mechanical products. Working within a collaborative engineering environment, the Design Engineer will play a key role in delivering complex mechanical systems across automotive and specialist engineering applications.

HSB Technical's client is an established and well-regarded engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of special purpose machinery and equipment.

Duties and responsibilities of the Design Engineer – Mechanical:

Produce innovative mechanical designs using 3D CAD from concept through to production, design components and assemblies including sheet metal, machined parts, castings and fabrications, create detailed engineering drawings, maintain drawing and PDM documentation, select suitable materials and manufacturing methods, assess prototypes for fit and function, support FEA and hand calculations where required, participate in design reviews, liaise with suppliers, prepare technical reports and work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver projects on time.

Some of the technologies and software you may be working with include:

SolidWorks, 3D CAD, PDM, ANSYS, FEA, Microsoft Office, Engineering Drawing Standards and Vehicle Data Logging Equipment.

Qualifications and requirements for the Design Engineer – Mechanical:

HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline, previous Mechanical Design Engineer experience, strong 3D CAD modelling and engineering drawing experience, experience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture, knowledge of sheet metal, machined components, fabrications and manufacturing processes, practical understanding of automotive engineering principles, strong communication and organisational skills, excellent problem-solving ability and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Desirable Experience

SolidWorks expertise, ANSYS or FEA analysis, structural analysis, PDM drawing control, Special Purpose Machinery, Automotive Engineering, Defence engineering, manufacturing or production environments, vehicle testing and data logging, Continuous Professional Development.
