Our client Birmingham's Children's Trust is looking for a Senior Practitioner to join their Family Help service.

Job Purpose

To provide a high-quality, statutory social work service within the Family Help model, working collaboratively with children, young people, and their families to safeguard and promote welfare, reduce risk, and achieve sustainable outcomes.

The postholder will hold a caseload of children and families requiring targeted early help, statutory assessment, or Child in Need (CIN) planning, ensuring interventions are timely, strengths-based, and trauma-informed, aligned to the Family Help approach.

Key Responsibilities

1. Case Management and Statutory Duties

Manage a diverse caseload including:
Child in Need (Section 17)
Pre-proceedings / Public Law Outline (where applicable)
Step-up cases requiring safeguarding oversight
Complete high-quality statutory assessments, including:
Children & Families Assessments
Risk assessments and safety plans
Take appropriate action where there are safeguarding concerns, including escalation in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Ensure all interventions prioritise the child's safety, welfare, and development. 2. Direct Work with Children and Families

Build purposeful, professional relationships with children and families using a strengths-based and relationship-focused approach.
Undertake direct work to:
Capture the voice of the child
Assess parenting capacity and family functioning
Support behavioural and emotional change
Work persistently with families where there is resistance, maintaining a clear focus on safety and outcomes.3. Planning, Intervention and Review

Develop and review Child in Need plans in partnership with families and multi-agency professionals.
Chair and/or contribute to:
Child in Need meetings
Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings
Core groups (if stepping up)
Monitor progress and adapt plans to ensure measurable impact and improved outcomes.4. Multi-Agency Working

Work collaboratively with partner agencies including schools, health, police, and voluntary sector organisations.
Coordinate joined-up interventions to reduce risk and avoid escalation where appropriate.
Contribute to multi-agency safeguarding processes and strategy discussions where required.5. Recording and Compliance

Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with statutory requirements and local policy.
Prepare high-quality reports for:
Reviews and planning meetings
Legal processes (where applicable)
Work within statutory timescales and service KPIs, ensuring audit-ready recording at all times. Benefits of working with Remedy
