Vision for Education is delighted to be working with a supportive secondary school in Newcastle, who are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team. This role offers opportunities for daily supply, long-term placements or fixed-term contracts, depending on your availability and the needs of the school.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to support students who require additional help managing their behaviour and engagement in school. You will play a key role in helping pupils remain focused in lessons, develop positive relationships and build confidence in their learning.
This role may involve working with individuals or small groups of students both inside and outside of the classroom, providing guidance, encouragement and support to help them succeed in a school environment.
Responsibilities may include:
Supporting students who may experience behavioural, social or emotional challenges
Promoting positive behaviour and helping students develop effective coping strategies
Assisting teachers in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
Working with small groups or on a one-to-one basis to support engagement in lessons
Supporting the school’s behaviour and safeguarding policies
Building positive relationships with students to help encourage confidence and resilience
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have:
Experience working with young people, children or within a support role
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
Patience, resilience and a calm approach when managing challenging situations
A genuine passion for supporting young people in education
The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school staff
Experience in youth work, coaching, mentoring, care work or education support roles would be highly beneficial.
