Job Title: RSHE and Independent Living Skills Teacher
Location: Waterloo Lodge School, Chorley, Lancashire PR6 7AX
Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday–Friday | 8.30am - 4.30pm
Salary: From £39,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

About the Role

As our RSHE & Independent Living Skills Teacher, you will take a creative, personalised approach to learning, adapting lessons to meet the individual needs of every pupil. You'll spend your time inspiring, encouraging and supporting students, rather than being overwhelmed by paperwork.

Working within a strong safeguarding culture where every pupil is listened to, respected and actively involved in their learning, you will help prepare young people for life beyond the classroom.

What You'll Be Doing

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)

You'll deliver engaging and accessible lessons that help pupils understand:

Healthy friendships and relationships

Respect, consent and personal boundaries

Physical and emotional wellbeing

Mental health and resilience

Puberty and understanding the human body

Personal safety in the community, around roads and water, and online safety

Independent Living Skills

You'll equip pupils with practical, real-world skills that promote confidence and independence, including:

Cooking simple meals

Cleaning and household management

Laundry and personal hygiene

Shopping and budgeting

Understanding money and everyday finances

Reading timetables and maps

Using public transport safely

Road safety and community awareness

Our pupils often require learning to be broken down into manageable, achievable steps. Through patience, creativity and encouragement, you'll help them develop essential life skills that will support them throughout adulthood.

About You

Degree level with QTS/QTLS. (ECT applicants are welcome to apply)

Deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to pupils with complex SEN, ASC and SEMH needs.

Create a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom where every learner feels safe, valued and motivated.

Support pupils' emotional, social and academic development.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and wider professionals to provide outstanding learning experiences.

Encourage independence, confidence and resilience through practical, meaningful learning.

Contribute to the English curriculum and wider school life.
