Transport Planner – Tanker Operations
Location: Selby Area
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Transport Planner looking for your next challenge?
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and highly regarded transport operation in a key planning role, coordinating a busy tanker fleet and playing a central part in the smooth running of daily operations.
We are looking for a strong, confident planner who can think on their feet, make quick decisions and provide an excellent level of service to customers.
Previous tanker planning experience would be advantageous but is not essential. ADR knowledge or experience would also be beneficial, although training can be provided to the right candidate with strong transport planning experience.
The Role
Working within a busy transport operation, you will be responsible for the effective planning and coordination of daily transport activity, ensuring drivers, vehicles and loads are planned efficiently while maintaining excellent levels of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate daily transport routes, journeys and loads
Schedule vehicles and drivers efficiently across the operation
Manage changing priorities and react quickly to operational issues
Liaise with drivers throughout the day and provide operational support
Brief and debrief drivers where required
Communicate with customers and provide proactive updates
Resolve transport and delivery issues quickly and professionally
Ensure transport resources are utilised effectively
Monitor transport compliance and support the reduction of infringements
Maintain accurate information across internal systems and Excel spreadsheets
Work closely with drivers, customers, suppliers and internal teams
Support vehicle and trailer availability for operational and compliance requirements
Build strong working relationships with customers
Deliver consistently high levels of customer service
Support the wider operations team when required
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
Previous experience within Transport Planning, Traffic Planning or a similar transport operations role
Strong route planning and scheduling experience
Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines
Strong geographical knowledge
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Confidence communicating with drivers, customers and internal teams
Strong problem-solving and logical decision-making skills
The ability to work independently and take ownership of daily planning activity
A proactive, flexible and hands-on approach
Good Microsoft Office and Excel skills
A good understanding of transport operations and compliance
Previous experience within tanker operations or ADR transport would be highly advantageous. However, applications are also welcomed from experienced Transport Planners from other transport backgrounds who are interested in developing within a specialist area of the industry.
