Facilities Engineer - Contract - Hemel Hempstead

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to provide planned and reactive maintenance across designated office and equipment site locations for a growing organisation's Facilities function.

The role covers technical maintenance, on-site management of specialist contractors, and compliance/H&S documentation across multiple sites. The successful candidate will also support the wider Field Services engineering team with general maintenance activities as required.

This is a hands-on role requiring a qualified electrician background and the confidence to work independently, manage contractors on site, and deputise for the Facilities Manager when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out technical planned maintenance in line with the PPM schedule.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance identified through planned activities or the reporting system.
  • Conduct operational and safety audits at designated sites.
  • Facilitate access for, and manage on site, specialist maintenance contractors.
  • Maintain accurate on-site records and compliance documentation.
  • Deliver monthly reporting of maintenance activities to the Facilities Manager.
  • Deliver monthly reporting of audits and environmental data capture to the Facilities Manager (and others as required).
  • Participate in the call-out rota (currently 1-in-4), covering own and other sites.
  • Carry out annual PAT testing at designated locations, plus ad hoc testing for internal staff and field teams.
  • Deputise for the Facilities Manager as required.
  • Manage spend on company credit for maintenance consumables/goods/equipment, with monthly reporting.
  • Attend training and continue developing relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Travel to sites across the UK as required, including occasional overnight stays.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • City & Guilds (or equivalent) qualified electrician.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Eligible for security clearance.
  • Previous experience in a similar facilities/maintenance role.
  • Strong IT literacy.
  • Experience supervising maintenance contractors.
  • Experience working alone with minimal supervision.

Desirable Skills:

  • City & Guilds (or equivalent) Test & Inspection qualification.
  • City & Guilds (or equivalent) PAT testing qualification.
  • IOSH (or similar) Health & Safety qualification.
  • Legionella Awareness training.
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience.
  • Knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of fire and intruder alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of UPS systems, standby generators and BMS.
  • Experience carrying out minor building fabric repairs.

Role Details:

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Day Rate: £200 - £300 (Inside IR35)
