Contract/Project
This role is part of a major network and systems transition programme at a medical device manufacturing site. You will assess each production asset, prepare the documentation needed for cutover, and help move systems safely onto a new network. You will work with a global transition team and gain experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
What You'll Be Doing
● Assess each manufacturing asset, including control systems, PLCs, HMIs, I/O, and how they connect.
● Review network details: VLANs, IP addresses, firewalls, switch ports, and dependencies.
● Check software and firmware versions, cybersecurity status, and any compliance gaps.
● Record machine-level requirements and prepare clear documentation before each cutover.
● Produce documentation that covers pre-cutover requirements, labelling, configuration changes, and UAT testing.
● Work with site engineering, IT, Quality, Validation, and Operations to plan site visits and cutover activities.
● Take part in site visits and workshops to confirm machine information and get sign-off from stakeholders.
● Support cutover activities: move assets onto the new network, coordinate configuration changes, and check systems work correctly afterwards.
● Help plan and schedule automation project work linked to the transition programme.
● Assess risks for each asset and help plan how to reduce them, including impact on validation and downtime.
● Help create and run test plans, including IT/UAT and cutover checks.
● Follow GxP/GAMP guidance for computerised systems and keep documentation ready for audits.
● Report issues or risks to management promptly.
What You'll Need
Essential
● A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Controls, or equivalent experience.
● Practical experience with OT and automation systems: PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networks, and field devices.
● Good knowledge of networking basics: TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, routing, and managed switches.
● Understanding of GAMP and computerised system validation in regulated environments.
● Experience carrying out site-based assessments and writing up technical requirements.
● Good communication skills and the ability to work with teams across different locations.
Desirable
● Experience in medical device or other regulated manufacturing environments.
● Experience with industrial cybersecurity, such as segmentation, firewalls, or NAC.
● Experience with MES, ERP integrations, or industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, or OPC UA.
● Experience planning or carrying out cutovers for network migrations.
● Experience with database configuration or basic scripting for automation tasks.
Skills and Attributes
● High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
● Proactive approach and good problem-solving ability.
● High professional standards and flexibility to manage changing priorities.
● Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
● Able to assess technical and risk impacts across automation and network changes.
● Good at collaborating and listening to others.
● Solid project management skills and able to meet deadlines.
● Always looking for ways to improve how things are done
