Information & Cyber Security Manager (SC) - Contract role - Hybrid working/London - £competitive, Inside IR35

Synergize Consulting are now hiring for an Information & Cyber Security Manager, to work at a leading consultancy client of ours on a contract basis.

The successful candidate will work within the Security Operations function and will play a key role in assuring the security of a large-scale national communications platform within the public sector.

You'll work closely with suppliers, systems integration partners and internal security teams to support the delivery and ongoing operation of a mature Security Operations capability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting day-to-day Security Operations across a complex, multi-supplier environment.
  • Leading and coordinating cyber incident response activities and supporting security investigations.
  • Managing vulnerability assessment, remediation and reporting processes.
  • Working with Security Operations Centre (SOC) teams to improve threat detection, monitoring and response capabilities.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of incident response playbooks, operational procedures and reporting.
  • Reviewing security risks and advising on appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborating with Systems Integration (SI) partners to develop and enhance end-to-end Security Operations capabilities.
  • Chairing and participating in security working groups and stakeholder forums.
  • Working with suppliers to ensure contractual security obligations are delivered.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the Security Operations function.

Experience required

The ideal candidate for this role will have hands-on experience within Security Operations rather than purely on the governance side, and will also have experience in the following areas:

  • Security Operations Centre (SOC) environments.
  • Cyber incident response and incident management.
  • Vulnerability management and remediation programmes.
  • Threat intelligence, threat monitoring and threat detection.
  • Working with SIEM, EDR/XDR or modern security monitoring technologies (eg Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar, Defender, CrowdStrike or similar).
  • Managing security operations across complex, multi-supplier environments.
  • Working within mission-critical, government or highly regulated organisations.
  • Advising stakeholders on operational cyber security risks and security incidents.
  • Leading security forums and engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience within Security Operations or Cyber Defence.
  • Strong knowledge of cyber incident response, vulnerability management and operational security processes.
  • Good understanding of UK Government security standards and NCSC guidance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple workstreams within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • It would be desirable to have knowledge of cloud security and modern detection technologies, as well as ITIL or Service Management experience.
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Assessor or similar.
  • Due to the nature of the client, it would be an advantage for candidates to hold, or be eligible and willing to undergo, a certain level of security clearance (SC)
