Job Description - Teacher of English
Reports to: Head of English / Head of Faculty
Location: Secondary School, Havering
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality, engaging and challenging English lessons that inspire students to develop their reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills. The successful candidate will support students to achieve their full potential and contribute positively to the success of the English department.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 desirable).
Inspire students through the study of literature, language and communication.
Assess, monitor and report on student progress, providing effective feedback to support improvement.
Create a positive, inclusive and ambitious learning environment with high expectations for all students.
Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Support students' development of literacy skills across the curriculum.
Contribute to curriculum development and departmental improvement planning.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and participate in meetings, training and professional development.
Maintain excellent standards of behaviour and uphold the school's policies and values.

Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or working towards QTS.
Strong subject knowledge and a passion for English.
Ability to teach English at Key Stages 3 and 4.
High expectations of student achievement and behaviour.
Excellent communication, organisation and classroom management skills.
Commitment to supporting the academic and personal development of young people.Desirable
Experience teaching GCSE English Language and Literature.
Experience working in a secondary school environment.
Ability to contribute to wider enrichment activities, such as reading programmes, clubs or trips.
Evidence of continued professional development.
