What you will be doing:

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer – Electrical (Ships), you will lead Test and Commissioning activities for complex onboard electrical systems, ensuring safe and compliant delivery within the Dreadnought Submarine programme. You will review technical documentation, coordinate commissioning activities with key stakeholders and provide technical guidance to support the wider engineering team.

Core duties:

Lead Test and Commissioning activities for onboard electrical systems, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of assigned work packages within a high-risk environment

Plan and coordinate commissioning activities with engineering teams, contractors and key stakeholders, including representation during Contractors Sea Trials and other outworking requirements

Review technical drawings, design documentation and system information to develop, issue and maintain accurate test and commissioning documentation, including system isolation requirements

Identify and implement safe isolation requirements for ship systems, ensuring compliance with company procedures, legislation and safety standards

Maintain accurate records of commissioning activities and provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to less experienced team members

Essential Skills:

HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience, with strong knowledge of electrical control, instrumentation and complex system operations

Proven experience commissioning complex electrical systems, including power plants, motors, high voltage systems, distribution systems and electrical testing activities

Practical experience using electrical test equipment and completing system testing, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation and system specifications

Knowledge of instrumentation systems including electrostatic discharge, low voltage control, data communications, PLCs and fibre optics

Understanding of safety controls, procedures and Nuclear Site Authorisation Conditions within high-risk engineering environments

Experience with hydraulic, pressurised air and gas systems, domestic water and chilled water systems would be advantageous

Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams

The Electrical Commissioning Team:

You will be part of the beginning of a major Dreadnought project which is also one of the biggest and most complex engineering programmes nationally. You may have the opportunity to travel on factory acceptance tests. We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
