The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. We are looking for a commercially driven professional with a strong contractor-side background who can take ownership of complex contractual matters and maximise commercial outcomes on a live infrastructure project.
Working as part of the commercial team, you'll play a key role in managing NEC contractual processes, leading commercial negotiations, and ensuring the business's contractual entitlement is fully protected.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of a live BESS infrastructure project.
Manage and administer NEC contracts, ensuring contractual obligations and entitlements are maintained.
Prepare, assess and negotiate Compensation Events and variations.
Build robust contractual submissions supported by clear evidence and programme impact.
Manage and resolve subcontractor claims.
Lead commercial negotiations with the client to achieve positive commercial outcomes.
Challenge client assessments where appropriate and confidently defend contractual positions.
Provide strategic commercial advice to the project and leadership teams.
Attend and lead commercial meetings with clients and stakeholders.
Essential Experience
Proven Senior Quantity Surveyor experience working for a principal contractor on major infrastructure, energy or civil engineering projects.
Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
Extensive experience managing:
Compensation Events
Variations
Contractor claims
Subcontractor claims
Commercial negotiations
Ability to produce well-reasoned contractual arguments supported by contractual entitlement.
Confident negotiating with clients and senior stakeholders, with the credibility to challenge decisions where appropriate.
Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
Experience within one or more of the following sectors is highly desirable:
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Substations
Heavy Civils
Power Transmission & Distribution
Renewable Energy Infrastructure
