Brent-based Primary School | September 2026 Start

Are you passionate about helping children achieve their full potential and build the confidence they need to succeed in Year 6 SATs?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and supportive Learning Mentor to join an outstanding Brent-based Primary School from September 2026.

This rewarding role focuses on supporting Year 5 pupils as they prepare for the transition into Year 6, while also working with Year 6 pupils to strengthen their academic skills, confidence and readiness for SATs.

About the Role

As a Year 5 & 6 Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers and school leaders to provide targeted academic and pastoral support. You will help pupils develop confidence in English and Mathematics, overcome barriers to learning and prepare effectively for the demands of Year 6 and the end-of-Key Stage 2 SATs.

You will play an important role in motivating pupils, reinforcing classroom learning and helping them develop positive study habits and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions in English and Mathematics to support progress towards Year 6 SATs.

Work alongside class teachers to reinforce learning objectives and identify pupils who require additional support.

Support Year 5 pupils with a smooth transition into Year 6 by developing key literacy, numeracy and study skills.

Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging confidence, motivation and a growth mindset.

Help pupils overcome barriers to learning through targeted academic and emotional support.

Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.

Liaise with teachers and parents/carers to provide updates on pupil progress where appropriate.

Assist with SATs preparation, revision sessions and examination techniques.

Promote positive behaviour, independence and effective learning habits within the classroom.

Contribute to creating a supportive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

What We're Looking For

A caring, enthusiastic and patient individual with a passion for helping children succeed.

Experience working with primary-aged children, particularly within Key Stage 2.

A good understanding of the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum, particularly English and Mathematics.

Confidence in delivering one-to-one and small-group interventions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire pupils.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to monitor and record pupil progress effectively.

A proactive, positive and professional approach to supporting pupils of varying abilities.

A commitment to helping children develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning.
