Scala Developer - Permanent - Up to £60,000

We are seeking a talented Scala Developer to join a growing engineering team working on the development of high-performance, scalable applications. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and contributing to modern software solutions within an agile environment.

As a Scala Developer, you will be involved in the full software development life cycle, working closely with product, engineering, and DevOps teams to design, build, and deploy robust applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using Scala.
• Build scalable, high-performing Back End services and APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and enhancements.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Participate in code reviews and promote best development practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Contribute to system design and architectural decisions.
• Support CI/CD and cloud-based deployment processes.

Required Skills & Experience

• Commercial experience developing software using Scala.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented and functional programming principles.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including testing and code reviews.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Akka, Play Framework, or Cats.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases.
