Independent End‑Point Assessor – Carpentry & Joinery (Level 2 & Level 3) - Freelance
Zephyr Recruit is excited to be working with Lead Edge.
Lead Edge is a specialist End‑Point Assessment Organisation dedicated to delivering high‑quality, reliable assessment services across the construction sector. They ensure that apprentices are assessed fairly, consistently, and in line with industry expectations so that employers can be confident in the competence of their workforce.
They are currently seeking Independent End‑Point Assessors (IEPAs) either on a part-time or full-time basis to conduct assessments for:
* Carpentry and Joinery (Site) - Level 2
* Carpentry and Joinery (Architectural) – Level 2
* Craft Site Carpentry – Level 3
* Craft Architectural Joinery – Level 3
Role Overview
End‑Point Assessors ensure apprentices meet the required Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) set out in each apprenticeship standard. This role requires professionalism, independence, and a strong understanding of current carpentry and joinery practice.
Assessments may be conducted onsite or remotely, with IEAs submitting clear and well‑reasoned assessment decisions. All assessment activity is carried out in line with Lead Edge policies, the relevant assessment plans, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities as an Assessor:
* Undertake training and standardisation as required by Lead Edge.
* Maintain up‑to‑date CPD relevant to carpentry and joinery.
* Deliver EPAs in line with national standards and assessment guidance.
* Provide accurate, detailed, and well‑justified grading decisions.
* Follow all assessment procedures and quality assurance requirements set by Lead Edge.
* Report risks, issues, and any suspected malpractice.
* Support appeals process where required.
* Declare any conflicts of interest.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of the EPA service.
Essential Requirements as an Assessor:
* Occupational competence in carpentry and/or joinery.
* A Level 3 qualification in Site Carpentry or Architectural Joinery (or equivalent experience).
* Assessor qualification (CAVA, A1, TAQA or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
* Recent (within the last 2 years) industry experience, (Apprenticeships).
* Experience with structured professional discussions or interviews.
* Strong understanding of compliance, assessment, or regulated environments.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD.
* Enhanced DBS check on the update service.
Other Requirements
* UK‑based within the Birmingham area or surrounding
* Suitable IT equipment for remote assessment.
* Secure email address and reliable broadband.
* Ability to travel when onsite assessments are required.
* Legal right to work in the UK.
Desirable
* Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to work towards one.
* Experience making grading decisions.
* Understanding of Prevent and Safeguarding duties.
