Transport Co-ordinator

Location: Birmingham B11 2LR
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00am – 7:00pm (occasional on-call required)
Salary: From £28,000 per annum, depending on experience

Nelson recruitment Services are looking for a proactive and organised Transport Co-ordinator to join our busy transport team. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same, requiring excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Previous transport planning experience is preferred

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and schedule multi-drop and groupage deliveries, ensuring vehicles are utilised to their maximum potential and efficiency.

* Understand vehicle weight limits, load volumes, and vehicle capabilities to support effective route planning and resource management.

* Ensure compliance with working time regulations, transport legislation, and safe working practices.

* Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times.

* Arrange subcontracted transport where required, using preferred subcontractors while managing day-to-day operational requirements.

* Identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

* Follow company policies and procedures, ensuring security and compliance standards are maintained.

* Deliver excellent levels of customer service while maintaining quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

* Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.

* Liaise effectively with drivers, colleagues, and management to ensure all daily transport activities are completed successfully.

* Work collaboratively with the wider team to resolve operational issues and provide practical solutions.

* Produce reports and maintain accurate transport records as required.

* Keep up to date with relevant transport legislation, industry standards, and best practice.

Skills & Experience

Essential

* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work effectively in a busy, sometimes noisy and demanding office environment.

* Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Confident using computer systems and Microsoft Office.

* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

* A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable

* Previous experience in a transport, logistics, or planning role.

* Knowledge of route planning, vehicle utilisation, and transport regulations.

* Experience working with transport management systems.
