Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Knowsley, L34
Salary: £36,000 – £40,000 per annum (DOE) + on‑call allowance
Hours: Full-time | On-site
The Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support the operation of a modern food manufacturing facility. The role focuses on maintaining plant equipment and utilities through planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation in a hygiene‑critical environment.
You’ll also contribute to engineering improvements, upgrades, and site development projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out PPM and reactive mechanical maintenance
* Diagnose faults and minimise equipment downtime
* Maintain and repair motors, gearboxes, pumps, agitators, and valves
* Support industrial utilities including steam boilers and compressed air systems
* Install and modify process pipework, valves, and fittings
* Fabricate basic components using workshop machinery
* Support shutdowns, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
* Ensure compliance with health & safety and food hygiene standards
* Accurately record maintenance activities and report issues
Requirements
* Relevant qualifications in engineering maintenance and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a mechanical maintenance role within an industrial or food manufacturing environment.
* Experience in welding and installing pipework systems including fittings and valves. Coded welding preferred.
* Minimum 3 years’ mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or food manufacturing environment
* Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
* Experience with PPM schedules and breakdown repairs
* Good understanding of health & safety and hygiene compliance
Desirable Certifications
* Confined Space
* FLT Licence
* PASMA / MEWP Licence
