Location: Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire
Salary: Competitive
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Rotating Shift Pattern:

Monday to Sunday, working five days out of seven
Weekday shifts rotate between 5:30am, 6:00am, 7:00am and 12:00pm starts
Saturday: 8:00am start
Sunday: 6:00am start

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technician to join a busy Technical Department based in Tewkesbury.

This role is ideal for someone who is accurate, methodical and enjoys working in a laboratory environment where quality and food safety are at the heart of everything you do. You will play a key role in ensuring dairy products consistently meet the highest standards through routine testing, sampling and quality control procedures.

Whether you already have laboratory experience or are looking to develop a career within laboratory sciences, full training will be provided for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation of the laboratory by carrying out microbiological, chemical and compositional testing of raw milk and finished dairy products. Working closely with the technical team, you will ensure all testing is completed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with company procedures and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out sampling and testing of raw milk and pasteurised dairy products
Perform microbiological testing using aseptic techniques
Conduct compositional and chemical analysis including butterfat testing, freezing point testing, alkaline phosphatase activity and antibiotic residue testing
Accurately record, interpret and report laboratory results
Support HACCP monitoring and food safety compliance
Complete water testing using titration methods
Produce customer Certificates of Analysis
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
Ensure laboratory equipment and work areas remain clean, organised and compliant
Follow COSHH, Health & Safety, Food Safety and Good Laboratory Practice procedures
Support the wider Technical team with additional laboratory duties as required
About You

We're looking for someone who has:

Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
A methodical and organised approach to work
The ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Flexibility to work the rotating shift pattern, including weekends
The ability to work independently while maintaining consistently high standards
Experience

Previous laboratory experience (food, dairy or manufacturing preferred)
Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory procedures
Understanding of HACCP, food safety and quality systems
Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science
A-Level (or equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry or another scientific subject
Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided for candidates with the right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to develop.
