An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering organisation specialising in the design and manufacturing of integrated packaging technology.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for developing mechanical design solutions for bespoke machinery and automated equipment, ensuring designs are safe, cost-effective, reliable, and meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Produce high-quality mechanical designs, technical drawings and associated documentation.
Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions while identifying and resolving design issues.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant technical standards, specifications and health & safety requirements.
Maintain drawing files, engineering records and as-built documentation throughout each project.
Support manufacturing and assembly teams by providing technical guidance and resolving engineering queries.
Ensure equipment is tested, proven and fully documented prior to commissioning.
Design products with a focus on standardisation, reliability and ease of manufacture.
Identify opportunities to improve existing equipment through innovative design and emerging technologies.
Liaise with customers, suppliers, distributors and specification teams throughout project delivery.
Support machine commissioning, testing and fault resolution, including customer site visits when required.
Deliver assigned engineering tasks on time and within budget.
Collaborate with other departments to achieve project and business objectives.
Attend technical meetings and provide engineering support across the wider group.
Travel within the UK and internationally when required to support installations, testing and after sales activities.
Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all company procedures and current legislation.You'll ideally have:

Degree qualified (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
At least 5 years experience in an engineering or mechanical design role.
Previous experience designing bespoke machinery, packaging equipment or special-purpose machinery.
Good working knowledge of CAD and PDM systems, with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM experience highly desirable.
Understanding of CE regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong project management and organisational skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.
Strong communication skills with the confidence to work directly with customers and suppliers.
A proactive, self-motivated and collaborative approach.
High attention to detail and excellent computer literacy.
Full UK driving licence and a valid passport.
