Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team, supporting the development and ongoing improvement of advanced electric motor systems and products. This Mechanical Design Engineer position plays a key role in providing technical leadership across manufacturing, operations, quality, supply chain, and product support functions.

The successful candidate will lead engineering investigations, resolve complex technical challenges, and support the delivery of high-quality products while ensuring customer satisfaction and operational excellence. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and technical innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate engineering investigations to support production and in-service products.
Provide technical expertise and make informed engineering decisions to resolve complex design and manufacturing challenges.
Review and approve engineering work, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
Act as the primary engineering interface for operations and product support, providing clear updates on priorities and progress.
Support production through participation in escalation meetings, helping to minimise downtime and maintain delivery schedules.
Ensure engineering investigation plans are robust, well-managed, and clearly documented.
Support configuration and change management activities to ensure product modifications are properly controlled.
Lead and complete engineering change requests, permits, and technical documentation in a timely manner.
Support supplier-related design investigations and work closely with quality teams to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Contribute to reliability, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across electric motors and associated mechanical systems.
Ensure timely resolution of engineering actions relating to quality and non-conformance issues.Skills & Experience:

Essential

Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent qualification.
Significant mechanical design experience within complex engineering environments (preferably Aerospace).
Strong experience designing:
Rotating equipment
Shafts
Bearings
Seals
Mechanical structures
Experience using CATIA and NX.
Sound understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
Ability to design for cost, manufacturability, reliability, and ease of assembly.

Desirable

Knowledge of electrical machines and systems.
Experience within the electric motors sector or related electrified vehicle industries.
Experience supporting manufacturing, production, or product support environments.
Background in technical investigations, reliability improvement, and continuous improvement programmes.
