We are recruiting an experienced Backshift Production Manager to lead all production activities across a busy, fast‑paced food manufacturing site. This is a key operational leadership role responsible for delivering shift performance, managing teams, ensuring compliance, and driving continuous improvement across high‑care and high‑risk areas.
The successful candidate will be a confident people manager with strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and a proven ability to deliver results in demanding FMCG environments.
Key Responsibilities
*
Lead and manage production teams and supervisors across the backshift, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operations.
*
Deliver daily production targets, labour planning and resource allocation aligned with production scheduling.
*
Maintain high standards of GMP, food safety, allergen control and hygiene across all areas.
*
Monitor and report on shift KPIs, driving improvements in output, waste, efficiency and performance.
*
Conduct investigations, manage performance issues and support disciplinary processes where required.
*
Work closely with Technical, Engineering, Planning and HR to ensure smooth shift operations.
*
Support internal and external audits, ensuring the shift is always audit‑ready.
*
Deliver training, coaching and capability development for team leaders and operatives.
*
Champion a positive, safe and inclusive working environment.
Candidate Requirements
*
Experience as a Production Manager, Shift Manager, Backshift Manager, or senior supervisor within food manufacturing or FMCG.
*
Strong people leadership skills with experience managing large teams.
*
Knowledge of food safety compliance, GMP and H&S standards.
*
Confident decision‑maker with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
*
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across departments.
*
Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.
*
Experience working in high‑care / high‑risk environments (advantageous).
