We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of History to join a large, well-established secondary academy in Barnsley from September 2026. This is an exciting long-term opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to delivering engaging and inspiring History lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5 for suitable candidates.
The successful candidate will become part of a supportive and ambitious Humanities department that is committed to achieving excellent outcomes and fostering a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare and deliver engaging History lessons that inspire and challenge students.
Teach History across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 teaching available depending on experience.
Assess, monitor and report on student progress in line with school policies.
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and higher-attaining students.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes high standards of behaviour and achievement.
Contribute to the wider life of the Humanities department and the academy.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop high-quality teaching resources and share best practice.
Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents, carers and colleagues.
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of all students.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
A degree in History or a closely related subject.
Experience teaching History within a UK secondary school.
Strong subject knowledge and a passion for History.
Excellent classroom management skills.
The ability to motivate and inspire students of all abilities.
A commitment to raising attainment and delivering high-quality teaching.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
