Assistant Engineering Manager – Building Services

Burton upon Trent / Nottingham

£59,000 + Excellent Benefits
Monday-Friday | Days (7:30am-4:00pm)

We're recruiting for an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager – Building Services to oversee the day-to-day operation across two large, highly automated industrial sites located between Burton upon Trent and Nottingham.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on engineer who has progressed into management and understands the demands of maintaining critical building infrastructure within a fast-paced manufacturing or automated environment.

You'll lead a dedicated Building Services team, ensuring the safe, reliable and compliant operation of all site services, whilst driving continuous improvement and supporting engineering excellence across both facilities.

Although primarily a management role, you'll still be comfortable rolling your sleeves up and providing technical support during major breakdowns or critical maintenance situations when required.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day management of all Building Services, including:

* HVAC and ventilation systems

* Building fabric and infrastructure

* Water hygiene and Legionella compliance

* Asbestos management

* Utilities and site services

* Planned and reactive maintenance

* Statutory inspections and compliance

* Contractor management and permit-to-work systems

* Continuous improvement projects

* Health & Safety compliance

* Leading and developing a small Building Services team

Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you'll help ensure both sites continue to operate safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.

About You

We're looking for someone who has worked their way up through engineering, rather than coming from a purely facilities management or office-based background.

Essential experience:

Minimum 3 years' Building Services management experience within a large manufacturing, industrial, production, distribution or automated environment

Hands-on engineering background with progression into leadership

Strong technical knowledge of:

* HVAC

* Legionella control

* Asbestos management

* Building compliance

* Site services and utilities

* Experience managing engineers and external contractors

* Strong understanding of planned and reactive maintenance

Qualifications

You'll hold a minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline such as:

Electrical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

HVAC

Plumbing

Building Services Engineering

Carpentry & Joinery (Building Maintenance)

HNC, HND or Degree qualifications are advantageous.

We're looking for someone who is:

A confident leader who enjoys developing people

Technically strong with excellent problem-solving skills

Organised and able to prioritise a busy workload

Passionate about engineering standards, compliance and continuous improvement

Comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced operational environment

What's on Offer?

£59,000 salary

Monday-Friday days (7:30am-4:00pm)

Excellent work-life balance

Responsibility across two major automated industrial facilities

Genuine career progression into Engineering Management

Ongoing investment in training and development

Join a highly respected engineering operation with a strong culture of continuous improvement
