Immediate Start
£70k - £80k Annual
Full-Time
We are Zenith are pleased to be supporting an established North‑East manufacturer in their search for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the business on a permanent basis.
This role sits at the heart of the company’s offshore HV cable technology. You’ll be working on the design, testing and commissioning of inter‑array and export cable systems, helping shape the standards and practices that underpin major offshore wind projects. If you enjoy solving complex electrical challenges and want to influence how high‑voltage cable systems are engineered and delivered, this position offers that scope.
Role Purpose
You will lead the development of internal products, engineering standards and commissioning strategies focused on HV cable systems. A key part of the role is defining long‑term DIAC commissioning approaches, setting cable management requirements, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality engineering practices across global offshore projects.
Key Responsibilities
*
Develop and implement test and termination procedures for inter‑array HV cable connections.
*
Review topside layouts and connector systems from multiple suppliers, producing clear specifications and documentation to support procurement and supply chain decisions.
*
Work closely with suppliers and offshore installation teams to ensure cable systems are delivered and installed correctly.
*
Specify and carry out electrical testing in line with relevant standards (IEC 60229/60840/63026, ISO 13628, CIGRÉ 490/623/841, IEEE 400).
*
Perform or oversee HV cable testing, including IR, CR, AC VLF, TDR, partial discharge, Tan Delta, resonance and DAC testing for qualification and commissioning.
*
Conduct system studies such as trainset analysis, fault studies, earthing, connector performance reviews and auxiliary equipment sizing (joints, junction boxes, enclosures, CMS, cleating, fire protection).
Qualifications & Experience
*
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
*
8+ years’ experience in offshore wind or offshore electrical systems, with strong knowledge of HV connectors, terminations and testing.
*
Professional registration (PE, CEng, EUR ING or equivalent) preferred.
*
Strong understanding of IEC, IEEE, ISO and CIGRÉ standards.
*
Offshore installation experience (offshore wind advantageous).
*
Willingness to travel offshore and internationally.
*
Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
*
Experience working with cross‑functional teams across multiple geographies.
*
Knowledge of XLPE/EPR insulated cables, subsea joints, offshore substations and inter‑array cable connectors.
*
Hands‑on HV testing experience is highly beneficial.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll be an experienced Electrical Engineer with a solid background in HV cable systems, whether that’s connector technology, terminations, or commissioning and testing of high‑voltage assemblies. You’ll bring curiosity, technical depth and a practical mindset to help drive the next generation of offshore cable infrastructure.
