Instrument Technician (Days) - Permanent

Location: Ayrshire, Scotland
Salary: Circa £55,000 + Pension + Overtime + Excellent Training & Development

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Instrument Technician to join a well-established, high-performing manufacturing site operating within a highly regulated process environment.

This is a permanent dayshift position, offering an excellent work-life balance alongside long-term career development. The successful candidate will become a key member of a close-knit maintenance team and will play an important role in mentoring and supporting the development of a younger engineering team, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and helping others progress.

The Role

You will be responsible for carrying out preventative and reactive instrumentation maintenance across the site, ensuring plant reliability, safety and operational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on plant instrumentation.
Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently and safely.
Maintaining and calibrating instrumentation including temperature, pressure, level, flow, pH and control valves.
Ensuring all work is completed in line with site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
Completing maintenance documentation and updating SAP records accurately.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance activities.
Working collaboratively with production and engineering teams to maximise plant availability.
Acting as a mentor to junior technicians and apprentices, supporting their technical development.

What We're Looking For

Minimum of two years' experience as an Instrument Technician within a process manufacturing, chemical or heavy industrial environment.
HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Strong fault-finding, calibration and instrumentation maintenance experience.
Knowledge of Functional Safety or Machine Safety would be advantageous.
Experience working in hazardous areas (ATEX); CompEx certification is desirable.
Electrical maintenance experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

Salary & Benefits

Circa £55,000 basic salary.
Permanent dayshift role.
Excellent pension scheme with company contributions of up to 12%, depending on employee contributions.
Significant overtime opportunities, dependent on plant requirements.
Comprehensive technical training including opportunities to gain:

CompEx certification.
Functional Safety training.
Additional specialist instrumentation training.
The opportunity to complete an Electrical SVQ, allowing you to become dual-skilled.

Overtime & Payback Hours

The role includes 120 annual payback hours, with the business committed to offering a minimum of 14 hours per month. In practice, many engineers complete these hours during planned site shutdowns, with the majority finishing their annual commitment by August, following the main maintenance outage period in April and May. Any additional overtime thereafter is dependent on operational and plant requirements.

Why Apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable and forward-thinking employer that invests heavily in its people. Alongside a competitive salary and generous benefits package, you'll enjoy genuine opportunities for technical development, long-term career progression and the chance to make a real impact by mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers.
