Role: Microbiology Laboratory Technician
Position: Full time Permanent
Based: Chichester outskirts
Salary: £25k to £30k OTE plus benefits
Our client is seeking a precise, detail-oriented Microbiology Laboratory Technician to join their laboratory team. In this role, you will perform essential day-to-day microbiological testing, media preparation, and quality control activities to support ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Testing & Accuracy: Conduct routine microbiology testing activities with the highest degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to turnaround times.
* Media & Reagent Prep: Accurately measure, prepare, and sterilize laboratory media, diluents, and reagents according to SOPs.
* Quality & Compliance: Check deionised water conductivity, measure post-sterilization pH levels, and report any out-of-specification (OOS) results immediately.
* Documentation: Ensure all lab sheets, logs, and technical records are legibly and correctly completed in ink.
* Lab Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, tidy workstation and assist with equipment operations, calibrations, and internal/external laboratory audits.
What We Are Looking For
* Education & Experience (Preferred): A degree (or equivalent qualification) in microbiology or a relevant discipline. Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a similar testing laboratory environment.
* Accreditation Knowledge (Preferred): Proven experience working in an accredited laboratory environment.
* ISO/IEC 17025 (Nice to have): Familiarity with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 is a strong advantage.
* Technical Skills: Strong ability to operate technical lab equipment accurately, learn practical techniques, and strictly follow documented SOPs.
* Personal Attributes: Meticulous attention to detail, excellent manual dexterity, and strong hand-eye coordination.
* Core Skills: Highly numerate with professional verbal and written communication skills.
* Independence: A self-motivated individual capable of working with minimal supervision once fully trained.
