Full-time – 37 hours per week
£21.11 per hour PAYE or £26.84 per hour Umbrella.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Parks Project Officer to join a busy Capital Delivery and Programme team within a major local authority in the South West.
This role sits within the Parks and Green Spaces service, supporting the delivery of a varied and high-profile portfolio of public realm and parks improvement projects. You’ll be working across a diverse estate that includes historic landscapes, community parks, and environmentally significant sites.
The Role
You will take responsibility for the end-to-end project management of capital works across parks and green spaces, including landscape infrastructure, pathways, structures, and heritage assets.
Key responsibilities include:
* Project managing parks and public realm capital works from inception to completion
* Coordinating repair and improvement works across green space infrastructure and heritage assets
* Preparing specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and bills of quantities
* Managing procurement processes including tender documentation and contractor evaluation
* Acting as Contract Administrator across multiple construction and maintenance schemes
* Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and wider Health & Safety legislation
* Monitoring budgets, programmes, and contractor performance
* Engaging with stakeholders including internal teams, consultants, contractors, and local communities
* Supporting funding bids and grant applications for environmental improvement projects
* Overseeing site works and undertaking regular inspections and progress reviews
The Projects
Work will include delivery across a varied parks portfolio, including:
* Pathway and accessibility improvements
* Repairs to historic and listed structures
* Restoration of heritage and memorial assets
* Public realm enhancements within significant landscape sites
* Community-led improvement initiatives following public consultation
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Experience in construction, landscape, or public realm project management
* Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety in construction
* Experience managing procurement, tenders, and contractor delivery
* Ability to produce specifications, drawings, and cost estimates
* Experience working in local authority or public sector environments (or similar complex stakeholder settings)
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g. PRINCE2 or equivalent)
Desirable:
* Experience in parks, green spaces, or landscape construction projects
* Knowledge of community engagement or public consultation processes
* Experience securing external funding or grants
* RPII Playground Inspector qualification (or willingness to obtain)
* Full UK driving licence
