Portfolio Payroll are recruiting on behalf of a leading accountancy practice who are seeking an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to support the continued growth of their Preston payroll function. This is a people‑focused role where you'll play a key part in shaping team development, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring the smooth delivery of multi‑frequency payrolls.
Role Overview
Overseeing day‑to‑day payroll operations across a varied client base.
Ensuring weekly, bi‑weekly and monthly payrolls run accurately and on schedule.
Reviewing payroll inputs to ensure completeness and compliance.
Spotting opportunities to enhance and promote payroll services to clients and intermediaries.
Staying up to date with payroll and industry changes, sharing updates with clients and colleagues.
Delegating work, reviewing outputs, coaching junior team members and supporting appraisals, billing and workflow management.
Experience & Qualifications
CIPP Foundation qualification
Strong technical payroll knowledge across multiple frequencies
Confident communicator with a collaborative, supportive leadership style
Ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams
Comfortable identifying improvements and driving service quality
