Electrical Estimator

Construction
Immediate Start
£60k - £70k Annual
Full-Time
The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established mechanical contractor, based in Blackburn, with a strong regional reputation built up over more than three decades. They are now launching an electrical division, and this Electrical Estimator role is one of the first appointments into it.
This is not a startup risk: the client relationships are already in place, the project pipeline is active and the business infrastructure is there. What does not exist yet is the electrical function, and the person who comes in now will have real say in how it is built; how tenders are approached, how the division positions itself and what standards it operates to. That kind of influence over something from the ground floor is genuinely rare in an electrical estimating role at this level.
Permanent, Blackburn, £60,000 to £70,000 depending on experience, plus a full benefits package. The scope for progression is significant for the right person.
About the Business
The business behind this role has been delivering mechanical and building services projects since the late 1980s. Their existing portfolio spans healthcare, education, local authority, retail, leisure, aerospace, emergency services and nursing homes, and on a number of schemes they operate as principal contractor rather than specialist subcontractor, taking on full site responsibility including strip-out, builders works and coordination.
That breadth of established work is directly relevant for the new electrical division: the client base and sector experience already exist, and the electrical offering will grow into an already active project environment rather than starting from nothing. The work is technically varied, the client relationships are long-standing, and the business has the accreditations and track record to support a credible electrical service from day one.
For an estimator who has thought about what it would look like to build a function rather than just work within one, the timing and setup here are about as good as it gets.
What You'll Be Doing
*
Taking ownership of electrical tender activity as the division is established, helping to define how the estimating function operates from the outset
*
Pricing and tendering electrical packages across a varied portfolio of projects spanning healthcare, education, aerospace, emergency services and more
*
Carrying out take-offs and measurement from drawings and specifications to produce detailed, accurate cost build-ups
*
Pricing the full project scope on main contractor schemes, including preliminaries, site management and coordination costs alongside the electrical package
*
Sourcing and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to build and maintain a competitive electrical supply chain for the new division
*
Contributing to how the division presents itself commercially, including developing tender documentation standards and processes
*
Working closely with the mechanical project and commercial teams to ensure a joined-up approach to M&E packages
*
Supporting post-tender negotiations and handover to the delivery team as the division secures its first contracts
What We're Looking For
*
A solid electrical estimating background within an M&E or electrical contracting environment
*
Confident leading tenders independently from enquiry through to submission
*
Someone who is genuinely motivated by the idea of building something, not just maintaining an existing function
*
Experience pricing across a variety of sectors and contract types is advantageous
*
Experience of main contractor estimating, or a clear appetite to develop that capability, is welcomed
*
Proficient in take-off and measurement, with strong attention to technical and commercial accuracy
*
Sound knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract forms
*
Relevant electrical qualifications
*
Full UK driving licence
What's on Offer
*
£60,000 - £70,000 depending on experience
*
Full company benefits package
*
The opportunity to shape a new electrical division from the ground up, within a business that already has the clients, the pipeline and the infrastructure behind it
*
Genuine, long-term progression as the division grows
*
A varied project portfolio across sectors most electrical estimators do not regularly encounter
