Teaching Personnel is seeking a resilient, empathetic, and proactive Behaviour Mentor to support students within a specialist SEND provision in Bridgend.

This maintained special school caters for pupils aged 5–19 years with a range of additional learning needs, including Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The successful candidate will work across varying key stages, so being flexible working with all ages is cruiclal. As a behaviour mentor you will be providing tailored support to help children manage behavioural and emotional challenges, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully in education.

This is a highly rewarding role for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their full potential.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in creating a positive and supportive learning environment by:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with behavioural and emotional needs.
Building strong, trusting relationships with young people to encourage engagement and participation.
Supporting students to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills.
Implementing positive behaviour management strategies and promoting consistency throughout the school day.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN professionals to support student progress.
Encouraging students to overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.
Acting as a positive role model and promoting confidence, independence, and self-esteem.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in hands-on, people-focused roles, particularly those involving children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.

Ideal backgrounds include:

Behaviour Mentor
Sports Coach or Fitness Instructor
Youth Worker
Support Worker or Care Worker
Residential Children's Worker
Teaching Assistant
Learning Support Assistant
Drama, Performing Arts, or Creative Arts Practitioner
Military, Emergency Services, or Community Support Roles
You will ideally have:

Experience working with young people.
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
An understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, SEND, ASD, or ADHD.
The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, staff, and families.
Additional training such as Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, or Trauma-Informed Practice is advantageous but not essential. We can also provide this.

Essential Requirements

Enhanced DBS Certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register (full support provided).
Minimum of 2 references to cover the last 24 months of employment
