Our client based just north of Cambridge is seeking a Functional Test Engineer to join its Agile software development team. Working on complex embedded communication and connectivity products, you will be responsible for validating new features, identifying defects and ensuring products meet quality, reliability and performance expectations. You will be a detail-oriented and proactive test professional with excellent communication skills, a strong sense of ownership and a passion for delivering high-quality products within a collaborative Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and execute functional test cases for embedded software, devices and APIs.
- Perform manual, exploratory and automated testing throughout the development lifecycle.
- Investigate defects, analyse logs and system traces and work closely with developers to resolve issues.
- Maintain and develop test strategies, test plans and regression testing approaches.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
- Contribute to test automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce regression effort.
- Provide clear reporting on test progress, risks and quality metrics.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in functional testing within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Experience testing embedded systems, communications products, networking, IoT or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of structured test design techniques and exploratory testing.
- Experience with test automation tools and scripting using Python, C# or similar.
- Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps or other test and defect management tools.
- Strong debugging, defect investigation and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with telecoms, RF, networking protocols or communications devices.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git.
- ISTQB certification.
