A huge leading tier 1 main contractor delivering major building, infrastructure and fit out projects, looking for a Senior Estimator to join their major building division in London. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in securing high quality projects across the healthcare, education, defence, justice, commercial & public sector markets on large projects.
You will be the most senior person within the estimating team, taking ownership of multi-million pound projects, and managing another Estimator.
This is a business that doesn't recruit often as they don't tend to loose staff so this is a rare opportunity to join a busy, well sought after contractor.
Senior Estimator roles & responsibilities
Lead the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects.
Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and employer's requirements to determine project scope.
Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with commercial viability.
Manage the full estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
Obtain, analyse, and negotiate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
Prepare detailed bills of quantities, cost plans, and pricing schedules where required.
Identify project risks, opportunities, exclusions, and value engineering options.
Work closely with Pre-Construction, Commercial, Design, Planning, and Operations teams to develop winning bid solutions.
Attend internal bid reviews and contribute to tender adjudication meetings.
Liaise with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners during the tender process.
Support two-stage tenders, negotiated contracts, framework opportunities, and competitive bids.
Maintain and develop cost databases, benchmarking information, and historical pricing records.
Ensure estimates comply with company procedures, client requirements, and contractual obligations.
Mentor and support the other Estimator in the team, providing technical guidance and reviewing their work.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating and pre-construction function.Senior Estimator requirements
Strong Estimating experience
Construction related degree / qualifications
Experience working for a tier 1 main contractor
