Supply Desk is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in HP12 area to appoint a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a structured, nurturing school environment.
This role is ideal for a patient and caring individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs, helping them develop communication, sensory awareness, physical skills, and independence.
The Role
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting pupils with PMLD on a 1:1 and small group basis
Assisting the class teacher with individualised learning plans and activities
Supporting sensory-based and play-based learning approaches
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
Supporting communication development (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory cues)
Assisting with personal care and manual handling (essential requirement)
Encouraging physical development and engagement in activities
Promoting independence, no matter how small the progress
Creating a calm, inclusive, and structured environment
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex SEN (highly desirable)
A calm, patient, and resilient approach
Comfortable supporting personal care and medical needs
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs
Availability to work in High Wycombe on a long-term basis
Desirable (but not essential):
Background in care, education, or healthcare
Moving & handling training
Experience using communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
