My client are a growing property maintenance and building services company delivering high-quality maintenance, refurbishment, and compliance solutions across residential, commercial, and public sector properties. As our projects continue to expand, we are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team and support the delivery of innovative, compliant, and cost-effective electrical design solutions.

The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing electrical designs for a wide range of property maintenance, refurbishment, and upgrade projects. Working closely with project managers, estimators, site teams, and clients, you will ensure all designs comply with current regulations while meeting project budgets and timescales.

This role offers the opportunity to work on varied projects, including planned maintenance, reactive works, decarbonisation programmes, electrical upgrades, and compliance improvements across domestic and commercial properties.

Key Responsibilities

* Design electrical systems for refurbishment, maintenance, and new installation projects.

* Produce electrical drawings, schematics, layouts, and technical specifications.

* Carry out lighting, power distribution, emergency lighting, fire alarm, and small power designs.

* Ensure designs comply with current BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, Building Regulations, and other relevant standards.

* Prepare design calculations, cable sizing, load assessments, and fault level studies.

* Support the preparation of project cost estimates and technical submissions.

* Review site surveys and existing installations to develop practical design solutions.

* Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.

* Provide technical support throughout project delivery, including responding to design queries and reviewing installation progress.

* Assist with commissioning, testing, and project handovers where required.

* Maintain accurate design documentation and project records.

Requirements

Essential

* Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience).

* Experience in electrical design within building services, facilities management, or property maintenance.

* Strong knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).

* Experience producing electrical calculations and technical documentation.

* Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical design software.

* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

* Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

* Experience designing within occupied residential and commercial buildings.

* Knowledge of emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, EV charging, solar PV, and energy efficiency measures.

* Familiarity with Revit or BIM software.

* Membership of a professional engineering institution or working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

* Experience with social housing, local authority, or public sector contracts.
