About the Role

Hackney Council is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to support the design and delivery of highways, active travel, road safety and public realm schemes across the borough. Working closely with the Principal Engineer, you will manage projects from concept through to implementation and contribute to the continued development of the Highways Service.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver traffic management, road safety, cycling, bus priority, school streets and public realm improvement schemes.
Manage and progress highway and civil engineering projects.
Review, respond to and resolve technical enquiries and complaints.
Deputise for the Principal Engineer when required.
Support project delivery, stakeholder engagement and public consultation.
Supervise staff and contribute to team development where necessary.
Ensure all projects comply with relevant legislation, standards and council procedures.

Essential Skills & Experience

Significant experience in highways, transport or civil engineering.
Strong AutoCAD skills with the ability to read, interpret, review and produce engineering drawings.
Experience providing technical appraisals and recommendations on cycle and highway design drawings.
Experience designing and delivering highways, road safety and active travel schemes.
Knowledge of LCDS, DMRB, TSRGD, Traffic Management legislation and industry best practice.
Experience preparing reports, consultation materials and project documentation.
Ability to work effectively with contractors, consultants, councillors and stakeholders.

Additional Duties

Carry out site visits and surveys to inform scheme designs.
Prepare construction packs including drawings, traffic management plans, CDM documentation and permits.
Produce bills of quantities and support scheme implementation.
Ensure all necessary statutory processes are in place, including TMOs and other highways legal requirements.

Qualifications

Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Transportation Engineering or a related discipline.
