Freelance Senior Planner - 12 Month Contract - North London - Immediate Start - Up to £570 per day

Location: Hackney, London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Contract: 12 Months

Rate: £570 per day (Umbrella)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join a major infrastructure and energy project based in Hackney. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable planning professional to play a key role in delivering complex projects across the design, procurement, and construction lifecycle.

Working closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Commercial teams, and key stakeholders, you will be responsible for producing robust, detailed programmes and ensuring project plans remain aligned with changing project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Build, optimise and implement construction programmes, including resources, outages, consents and wayleaves, to successfully deliver project objectives.

Produce detailed progress trackers and reporting tools to monitor and communicate weekly performance.

Support the Head of Commercial and wider planning team in developing a strong planning culture across projects and business units.

Drive the integration of cost management systems to enable automatic CPI/SPI reporting and strengthen planning disciplines.

Champion programme management policies, procedures and best practice standards.

Participate in project handover meetings alongside Bid teams, Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors.

Work closely with Project Managers and Project QS teams to maximise project performance and attend site meetings when required.

Provide planning expertise during tender submissions and pre-construction activities.

Represent the business at client meetings and ensure delivery against key performance indicators and deadlines.

Gather benchmarking information to support value-for-money assessments.

Develop and maintain risk, issue and opportunity registers in conjunction with risk management and value engineering teams.

Keep up to date with emerging planning techniques, technologies and industry initiatives.

Contribute to business improvement programmes and strategic objectives.

Work collaboratively with commercial, financial and planning systems teams.

Monitor programme compliance against contractual obligations.

Manage risks, control costs and deliver agreed outputs within the required safety and regulatory framework.

Skills & Experience Required

Full UK driving licence.

Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.

Strong experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) methodologies.

Solid understanding and practical experience of NEC contracts.

Experience managing formal change control processes.

Previous experience within the energy sector is highly advantageous.

This is a 12-month freelance contract offering a competitive rate of £570 per day via Umbrella, with a hybrid working arrangement requiring three days per week onsite in Hackney.
