Requires one-to-one support during the day to help maintain his wellbeing, dignity, independence, and quality of life. We are looking for caring individuals who can build a positive and trusting relationship with him while providing person-centred support tailored to his needs.
Gentleman who benefits from reassurance, companionship, and a calm, patient approach. Although dementia has affected some of his previous interests, he can enjoy getting out and about, having a change of scenery but also likes the comfort of his own home.
Hours: Approximately 42 hours per week available across the team (to be discussed and agreed at interview)
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour
Please note: We are looking to build a small team of Personal Assistants rather than recruit a single individual. This will ensure continuity of care and provide cover for holidays, sickness, and other absences whilst maintaining consistency and familiarity for Ian.
Duties may include:
- Providing companionship and one-to-one support
- Encouraging and prompting Ian to eat and drink throughout the day
- Emptying and monitoring a urinary catheter bag
- Supporting Ian's comfort and wellbeing
- Accompanying Ian on outings pushing his wheelchair
- Spending time chatting, engaging in activities, and providing reassurance
- Monitoring wellbeing and reporting any concerns to family members
- Promoting independence whilst ensuring Ian is treated with dignity, respect, and kindness at all times
Please note: Personal care is provided separately by domiciliary carers and is not part of this role.
Essential qualities:
- Caring, compassionate, and patient nature
- Reliable, trustworthy, and flexible
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Understanding of dignity, respect, and person-centred care
- Comfortable supporting someone living with dementia
Desirable:
- Experience working in care or support roles
- Experience supporting adults with Down's syndrome and/or dementia
- Knowledge of catheter care
- Moving and handling experience
- First Aid training
