VAT Advisory Manager — East Midlands (Hybrid)
To £65,000 dependent on experience
Cherry Professional is delighted to be working with a respected, mid-sized accountancy practice in the East Midlands is looking to hire a VAT Advisory Manager to join a growing tax team and take the lead on a varied portfolio of advisory-led VAT work. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, building trusted relationships, and having genuine influence over how a VAT offering develops.
You’ll work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders across the firm, supporting a broad client base (owner-managed businesses through to larger groups), and helping to shape internal capability through coaching and quality review.
The role
As VAT Advisory Manager, you’ll provide practical, commercially focused VAT advice while balancing delivery, client management, and team development. The work will be predominantly advisory (with some oversight/support where needed).
Key responsibilities
Deliver high-quality VAT advisory services across a diverse client portfolio
Manage and lead VAT projects end-to-end: scoping, risk identification, technical analysis, reporting and implementation support
Advise on areas such as VAT registrations, partial exemptions, land & property, E-Commerce/OSS/IOSS, international trade/import VAT, and VAT health checks
Support with complex VAT return issues and technical queries from colleagues and clients
Identify opportunities to add value, spot risks early, and deliver clear recommendations
Build strong internal relationships with audit/accounts teams to ensure VAT is considered proactively
Coach and support junior team members; contribute to technical training and knowledge sharing
Assist Partners with business development: proposal work, client meetings, and growing the VAT offeringWhat we’re looking for
Strong VAT advisory experience gained in a practice environment (or a VAT-focused role with relevant client exposure)
Confident advising clients and stakeholders, with the ability to translate technical points into practical actions
Solid knowledge across core VAT areas; exposure to land & property, partial exemption, or international VAT is advantageous
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
A track record of managing multiple priorities and delivering to deadlinesWhat we are looking for
ATT / CTA / ACA / ACCA (or equivalent experience) is welcomed but not essential — the emphasis is on capability and advisory depthWhat’s on offer
