Outreach Worker (Alternative Provision)

Location: Accrington area, Lancashire

Salary: £100 - £144.89 per day

Contract Type: Full-time (5 days a week), Temporary to Permanent potential

Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment are working closely with a leading Alternative Provision in the Accrington area to find a dedicated, resilient, and passionate Outreach Worker.

This is a vital, full-time role working five days a week. You will be delivering targeted, 1:1 interventions with students from mainstream secondary schools. Your primary objective will be to provide the necessary behavioural, emotional, and academic support to engage these young people and ultimately avoid permanent exclusion.

You will act as the bridge between mainstream education and alternative provision, working on-site, in schools, and occasionally in community settings to re-engage students who are at risk of falling out of the education system.

Key Responsibilities

1:1 Interventions: Deliver tailored intervention programs to secondary-aged students on a one-to-one basis, focusing on behavior management, emotional regulation, and academic engagement.

De-escalation & Support: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to support pupils displaying challenging behaviours or disaffection.

Mainstream Liaison: Work collaboratively with mainstream secondary schools, pastoral teams, and families to track progress and facilitate successful reintegration or placement stability.

Progress Tracking: Monitor, record, and report on the progress of individual students, adapting intervention plans as required to meet their evolving needs.

Mentoring: Act as a positive role model, building strong, trusting, and professional relationships with vulnerable young people.

Requirements & Person Specification

Experience: Proven experience working with secondary-aged children (11-16) exhibiting challenging behaviour, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, or those at risk of exclusion.

Sector Background: Backgrounds in Youth Work, Youth Offending, Sports Coaching, Residential Care, or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) are highly desirable.

Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm, resilient, and patient under pressure.

Flexibility: Ability to work independently and travel across the Accrington area as required for outreach duties.

Compliance: Must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for a new one) and provide full employment references.

What We Offer

A dedicated consultant to support you through your placement.

Competitive rates of pay reflecting your experience.

Access to free, accredited CPD courses via Tradewind to enhance your skills.

The opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
