Job Title: Mechanical Assembly Technician
Location: Hailsham, East Sussex
Job Type: Permanent, full-time
TPA Recruit is supporting a specialist high-technology manufacturer in the search for a Mechanical Assembly Technician based at its purpose-built facility in Hailsham East Sussex.
This is a hands-on position assembling ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) manipulation and sample-handling equipment. The role combines precision mechanical assembly, specialist wiring, electrical testing, cleanroom working and production documentation within a low-volume, customised manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble precision mechanical and electrical components into complex systems in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
Build UHV manipulation and sample-handling sub-assemblies, pre-test data recording and quality-control evaluation.
Complete specialist UHV-compatible instrument wiring and electrical testing.
Maintain UHV-clean process standards for all in-vacuum components and sub-assemblies.
Support the transition of new hardware from NPI into routine production.
Create and update manufacturing instructions, process guides and supporting production documents.
Maintain accurate test records, quality information and instrument serial-number histories for future service and support.
Attend occasional client meetings, site visits or events, travel planned in advance and authorised expenses reimbursed. Skills and Experience Required
Previous experience within a high-technology, precision engineering or cleanroom manufacturing environment.
Practical experience of mechanical assembly, precision hand fitting and working from engineering drawings.
An understanding of specialist wiring and product test procedures within a low-volume or customised product environment.
Ability to work accurately to defined processes, deadlines and quality standards.
Good attention to detail, organisation and record-keeping skills.
Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Experience producing UHV-compatible devices or instrumentation involving electron optics or ion optics would be advantageous. Qualifications
A Level 3 mechanical engineering qualification is preferred.
A relevant HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or a related discipline would be beneficial.
Qualified-by-experience and time-served apprenticeship candidates will also be considered. Personal Attributes
