Contract: Up to 3 Years
Rate: £350–£500 per day (DOE)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced PLC Controls Engineer to join a long-term project based at Heathrow Airport. This is an excellent opportunity to work on the upgrade of PLC control systems across critical airport infrastructure.
You will be supporting the programme from initial testing through to final commissioning and project handover.
The successful candidate will work alongside the project delivery team to verify the functionality, performance and safety of upgraded control systems before they are returned to service
This is a contract position offering up to three years of work, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for Siemens PLC upgrades in accordance with approved LogIT test documentation.
* Test and validate PLC software modifications, control sequences, safety functions and system interfaces following each upgrade.
* Verify the correct installation, operation and integration of new PLC hardware and associated control equipment.
* Conduct functional testing of equipment to confirm all operational modes perform as designed.
* Identify, diagnose and assist in resolving PLC, I/O and control system faults encountered during testing and commissioning.
* Accurately complete, sign and maintain all commissioning, testing and UAT documentation.
* Produce and support final handover documentation, ensuring all acceptance criteria have been satisfied before systems are returned to operation.
* Work closely with automation engineers, electrical engineers and operational stakeholders to minimise disruption to live airport cargo operations.
* Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with site health, safety and quality procedures.
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience as a PLC Engineer within industrial, manufacturing, automation, or infrastructure environments.
* Strong knowledge of siemens PLC programming and fault finding.
* Experience carrying out User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and/or Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
* Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, I/O schedules and PLC documentation.
* Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills within industrial automation environments.
* Experience producing accurate testing, commissioning and quality documentation.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
Security Clearance Requirements
Due to the location of this role, candidates must be eligible to obtain an Airside Pass. This requires:
* A minimum of five years' checkable work, and address history.
* The right to work in the UK.
* Successful completion of airport security vetting.
