Sheffield | Up to £240 per day (Dependent on Experience, Qualifications & Assignment)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting experienced, resilient and compassionate High Needs Tutors to provide high-quality, personalised education to children and young people across Sheffield, working outside of the traditional school setting. This rewarding supply opportunity offers flexibility while making a significant difference to learners with complex additional needs who require tailored educational support.

As a High Needs Tutor, you will work on a 1:1 basis with pupils across a range of settings, including homes, community venues and alternative provisions. You will deliver bespoke educational programmes designed to meet each learner's individual academic, social and emotional needs. Due to the nature of the role and travelling between multiple locations, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.

The Role

You will be supporting children and young people with high levels of need, many of whom are currently unable to access mainstream education. Learners may present with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, medical needs, and may hold Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Working closely with schools, local authorities and multi-agency teams, you will deliver structured, engaging and highly personalised learning programmes. The focus will be on re-engagement with education, emotional regulation, confidence building, and where appropriate, supporting reintegration into suitable educational settings.

Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality 1:1 tuition tailored to pupils with complex and high-level needs.
Travel to pupils across Sheffield, including homes, community settings and alternative provisions.
Plan and deliver highly differentiated learning programmes across core curriculum areas.
Adapt teaching approaches to meet a wide range of SEND, SEMH and medical needs.
Build strong, trusting relationships that support engagement, safety and emotional regulation.
Provide consistent academic support while prioritising wellbeing and engagement.
Monitor and record progress, contributing to reports and multi-agency reviews.
Work collaboratively with schools, families, local authorities and external professionals.
Support behaviour regulation using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
Maintain strict safeguarding standards and promote the welfare of all learners at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

Have experience working with children or young people with high-level SEND and/or SEMH needs.
Are confident working with pupils who may be disengaged or require intensive support.
Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
Understand trauma-informed and child-centred approaches to learning.
Can deliver highly differentiated and flexible learning programmes.
Are resilient, empathetic and committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle, as travel between multiple locations is essential.
Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or are willing to obtain one).
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), teaching qualifications, or have significant experience in high needs or alternative provision settings (desirable).

Pay & Assignment Information

Tutors can earn up to £240 per day, with pay determined on a case-by-case basis. Higher rates are typically offered to candidates who can demonstrate:

Significant experience working with high needs learners in SEND, SEMH or Alternative Provision settings.
Relevant teaching qualifications, such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
A strong track record of delivering successful 1:1 interventions for complex learners.The final rate of pay will ultimately depend on several factors, including the individual needs of the learner, the expectations and complexity of the assignment, your experience and qualifications, your availability, and the budget allocated by the Alternative Provision or commissioning organisation.
