Overview of the Role Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Highway Inspector to join a Local Authority in North East Lincolnshire. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the highway network remains safe, compliant and well maintained, undertaking inspections, coordinating reactive maintenance and supporting the Authority's statutory duties under the Highways Act.
The successful candidate will carry out inspections across the highway network, investigate defects, liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and maintain accurate records to support legal compliance and highway safety.
Responsibilities
Carry out routine and reactive highway inspections to identify defects and order appropriate maintenance works.
Assess highway defects and prioritise repairs in accordance with legislation, policies and codes of practice.
Maintain detailed inspection records and documentation to support statutory compliance and potential liability claims.
Assist with the investigation and processing of third-party insurance claims, including providing evidence, attending site meetings and supporting legal proceedings where required.
Investigate enquiries and complaints from residents, elected members and other stakeholders within agreed timescales.
Build effective working relationships with internal teams, parish councils, emergency services, neighbouring authorities and the general public.
Inspect works carried out by contractors and third parties to ensure compliance with specifications, legislation and safety standards.
Identify locations requiring larger-scale maintenance or improvement works beyond routine repairs.
Support the enforcement of highway legislation and intervene where unsafe working practices are identified.
Assist with vehicular crossing applications, Freedom of Information requests and the continuous improvement of highway inspection processes.Requirements
Experience within Highway Inspection, Highway Maintenance or a Civil Engineering environment.
Good understanding of highway construction methods, maintenance techniques, materials and equipment.
Ability to work methodically whilst maintaining accurate inspection records and documentation.
Knowledge of highway maintenance legislation, procedures and best practice.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal professionally with members of the public and a range of stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and effectively manage your own workload.
Experience carrying out dynamic risk assessments.
Calm and professional approach when dealing with challenging situations.
Full UK Driving Licence.Desirable
Highway Inspection Qualification.
Minimum of three years' experience within highway inspection or a related highways discipline.
Streetworks Supervisor Accreditation.
