About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our successful Science Department. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for science and practical learning to support the delivery of high-quality science education across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to support Key Stage 5 where applicable.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing practical lessons, maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring that laboratories meet the highest standards of health and safety. Working closely with teaching staff, you will contribute to creating an engaging and inspiring learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, set up and clear away equipment and materials for practical science lessons.
Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and science equipment to a high standard.
Ensure chemicals and equipment are stored safely in accordance with current regulations.
Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Assist with stock control, ordering and monitoring departmental resources.
Support teachers during practical activities where appropriate.
Undertake risk assessments and help ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, including COSHH.
Dispose of laboratory waste safely and responsibly.
Assist with the development of practical resources and demonstrations.
Support enrichment activities, science clubs and events where required.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
Experience working in a laboratory, school science department or similar environment (desirable).
A good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures, including COSHH (desirable).
Good ICT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
A flexible, positive and proactive approach to work.
