Job Description - Teacher of English
Start Date: September
Responsible to: Head of English
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality English lessons that inspire a love of literature and language, raise attainment, and support students to achieve their full academic potential.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable).
Teach a range of literature and language topics in line with the national curriculum.
Assess, track, and support student progress effectively.
Provide feedback to improve student outcomes.
Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development.
Support extracurricular activities such as reading clubs or writing enrichment.
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and high standards of behaviour.
Person Specification
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Degree in English or a related subject.
Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature.
Effective classroom management and communication skills.
Enthusiastic, reflective, and committed to raising achievement.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
