Senior Optical Systems Engineer

Our client is an innovative engineering business developing advanced optical and laser-based technologies for a range of high-performance industrial and scientific applications. Working at the forefront of precision engineering and photonics, they design and manufacture complex systems that support customers operating in highly technical and rapidly evolving industries. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a talented Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Senior Optical Systems Engineer, Optical Engineer, Photonics Engineer or Laser Systems Engineer with a strong background in complex system design and multidisciplinary engineering. You'll be an excellent communicator with the ability to collaborate across optical, mechanical, software and electronics teams while taking ownership of technically challenging projects from concept through to product delivery. You'll be proactive, solutions-focused and passionate about developing innovative engineering solutions.

As a Senior Optical Systems Engineer, you'll lead the architecture, integration and verification of sophisticated optical systems, bringing together laser technologies, precision mechanics, motion control, electronics and software into reliable, production-ready products. You'll play a key role in developing next-generation technology, working closely with both internal engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure systems meet demanding performance, reliability and manufacturability requirements. Significant experience developing complex optical, photonics or laser-based systems.

Strong understanding of systems engineering, optical integration and multidisciplinary product development.

*

Degree, Master's or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics or a related engineering discipline.

*

Experience leading engineering projects from concept through to verification and product release.

*

Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

*

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to technical challenges.

*

Experience with precision motion systems, optical modelling or programming tools such as Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW would be advantageous.
