Principal Civil & Structural Engineer
Locations: London, Newcastle, Warrington, Bristol, Gloucester or Knutsford
Job Type: Permanent | Full Time (40 hours per week)
Salary: Competitive, DOE
We are seeking an experienced Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to act as a Responsible Engineer and Technical Authority on major energy projects within highly regulated environments. This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to influence technical strategy, lead multidisciplinary teams, and deliver complex engineering solutions from concept through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
Lead civil and structural engineering activities across the full project lifecycle.
Act as Responsible Engineer and provide technical leadership on major projects.
Ensure delivery of engineering packages to cost, programme, quality, and safety requirements.
Lead and review safety case documentation, design substantiation, calculations, technical reports, and specifications.
Provide technical governance and quality assurance for safety-critical systems.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders.
Mentor and develop engineers within the wider team.
Support business development, proposals, and client growth opportunities.
Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering delivery.About You
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (BEng/BSc/MEng/MSc).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised professional institution.
Significant experience within the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries.
Previous experience in a senior technical leadership, Responsible Engineer, or team management role.
Strong knowledge of civil and structural engineering design, standards, and regulatory compliance.
Experience with finite element analysis and engineering design tools.
Knowledge of ACI, ASCE, and AISC standards is desirable.
Familiarity with BIM environments and UK nuclear licensing processes would be advantageous.
Excellent leadership, communication, and client engagement skills.
