Hybrid Assistant Team Manager (Children's Services)

📍 Location: County Hall, Trowbridge (BA14 8JN), Bourne Hill, Salisbury, or Monkton Park, Chippenham
💰 Rate: £240 Per Day
🕒 Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
📅 Contract: 3 Months Initially
🏠 Working Pattern: Hybrid (Approximately 1 day per week in the office)

Wiltshire Council is currently seeking experienced Assistant Team Managers to support Children's Services teams across the county during a period of increased demand and reduced substantive management capacity.

We have two exciting opportunities available:

Assistant Team Manager – Children & Young Persons Disability Team

Provide management oversight within the Children and Young Persons Disability Team, ensuring safe and effective service delivery, supporting practitioners, and maintaining high standards of practice across the service.

Peripatetic Assistant Team Manager

A county-wide flexible management role providing targeted support to teams experiencing capacity pressures. You will work across service areas where additional management oversight is required, helping to strengthen operational resilience and practice quality.

Key Responsibilities

Provide full line management responsibility for a team of staff

Manage performance, quality assurance, supervision, wellbeing, training and development

Monitor workloads and ensure statutory responsibilities are met

Support safe decision-making and effective case management

Lead on practice improvement and service development initiatives

Analyse performance data and identify areas for improvement

Contribute to policy development, operational procedures and service transformation projects

Manage staffing issues, including performance and attendance matters

Build strong relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders

Support operational stability and service resilience across Children's Services

Requirements

Essential

Degree in a relevant profession or equivalent experience

Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care

Previous management or supervisory experience within a social care environment

Level 4 Management qualification or equivalent experience

Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies and best practice

Experience managing, motivating and developing teams

Excellent organisational and workload management skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Confident user of Microsoft Office and specialist social care systems

Ability to work independently while leading teams through change

Desirable

Experience leading service improvement or transformation projects

Budget management experience

Knowledge of Wiltshire Council systems and procedures
