Unfortunately, due to timescales, this vacancy is unable to offer sponsorship.
The company A growing surveying and site-support business delivering utility detection, permit-to-dig support and related survey services on major infrastructure projects. The organisation is predominantly based at a large UK airport environment, supporting multiple concurrent projects with an established on-site team, while also servicing clients off-site. Due to increasing demand and a significant volume of previously outsourced survey work, the company is bringing more end-to-end surveying capability in-house and looking to build out this function over time.
The opportunity This is an opportunity for an experienced utility survey professional to take ownership of the company’s in-house survey capability and help develop it into a dedicated function. The role will focus on delivering end-to-end PAS 128 utility surveys (from site work through to processing/drawings), coordinating requirements with stakeholders, and acting as the go-to person for survey delivery.
The position is primarily based on a long-term site at a major airport, with some work for external clients as required. While the longer-term aim is for the successful hire to focus on surveys, there may initially be occasions where you support permit-to-dig activities when survey workload is quieter. The business will provide support from experienced site personnel and intends to invest in training/qualifications (e.g., progression toward Level 5) where needed.
Salary and benefits
Salary: typically starting in the £50k+ range depending on capability/experience, with potential for faster progression as the function grows.
Company vehicle provided.
Fuel card provided (with informal flexibility outside working hours; subject to company policy).
25 days annual leave.
Training/qualification support: funding/enrolment toward Level 5 qualification where required for site permissions.Responsibilities
Deliver end-to-end PAS 128 utility surveys (site capture through to post-processing and final outputs).
Undertake on-site data collection using appropriate surveying equipment (e.g., total station) and associated methods.
Produce drawings/survey deliverables and manage post-processing workflows.
Liaise with stakeholders to clarify scope, requirements and outputs (supporting client-side discussions where needed).
Take ownership of the in-house survey function and help shape how the service is delivered as it grows.
Support permit-to-dig activities when required (particularly during quieter survey periods), aligned to site requirements.
Work collaboratively with existing site teams who can provide operational support.Ideal candidate
Proven experience delivering PAS 128 utility surveys (ideally across multiple categories) from start to finish.
Able to handle both fieldwork and office-based post-processing/drawings without reliance on third parties.
Competent with relevant surveying equipment such as total stations.
Comfortable taking ownership of a service line and developing processes; capable of stepping into a ‘survey lead/manager’ style position.
Adaptable mindset—willing to support permit-to-dig work when needed while the in-house survey department scales up.
Reliable, safety- and compliance-conscious approach suited to working in high-security/high-standards environments. For more information and to discuss this opportunity, please call Simon Cowley on (07734) (phone number removed)
