Senior Ecologist
Location: Somerset (Local Authority)
Contract: Temporary
Duration: 3–6 months
Rate: Competitive day/hourly rate (DOE)
A Somerset-based Council is seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to support its Planning Service during a period of increased workload.
This role focuses on providing specialist ecological advice on planning applications, including major developments and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments. Working remotely, you will review ecological reports, assess mitigation proposals, advise on protected species issues, and support planning officers in delivering compliant and sustainable development decisions.
Key Requirements
*
Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
*
Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
*
Significant experience reviewing ecological reports within a planning environment.
*
Experience advising on mitigation, compensation, and Biodiversity Net Gain.
*
Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and work independently.
Desirable
*
Previous experience within a Local Planning Authority (LPA) or similar regulatory setting.
